Our Program

A Nature-Inspired Learning Experience for Young Children

Mariposas Nature Preschool offers a nurturing early childhood program where children can grow through exploration, creativity, and connection with the natural world. Our program is designed for children ages three to six and provides a warm and supportive environment where curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning can naturally develop.

At Mariposas, we believe that young children learn best through meaningful experiences. Rather than rushing through academic expectations, we create opportunities for children to explore, ask questions, and discover the world through hands-on learning and play.

A Nature-Inspired Approach

Our program follows a nature-inspired approach to early childhood education that weaves together seasonal learning, creative expression, and time outdoors.

Children spend time observing the changing seasons, exploring plants and animals, building with natural materials, and engaging in imaginative play inspired by their surroundings. These experiences support the development of the whole child — socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually.

Nature is not simply a place we visit. It is a living environment that invites children to notice, wonder, and build a relationship with the world around them.

Learning Through Seasonal Themes

Throughout the year, children explore themes connected to nature, community life, and the rhythms of the seasons. These themes guide hands-on activities such as storytelling, art, science exploration, cooking, and creative play.

Seasonal learning allows children to revisit ideas through different experiences while developing familiarity with the natural cycles that shape the world around them.

This approach reflects the foundation of The Mariposas Curriculum, a nature-inspired framework developed through years of classroom experience at Mariposas Nature Preschool.

A Gentle Daily Rhythm

Young children thrive when their days follow a predictable and balanced rhythm. At Mariposas, each morning includes time for both independent exploration and shared experiences.

A typical day may include:

• Arrival and welcome
• Open invitations and free exploration
• Circle Time with songs, stories, and seasonal themes
• Hands-on learning experiences connected to the weekly theme
• Outdoor exploration and nature play
• Reflection and a calm closing rhythm

This structure helps children feel safe and confident while allowing curiosity and imagination to guide their learning.

Learning Through Play, Nature, and Community

Children learn not only from activities but also from relationships. At Mariposas, we place strong emphasis on kindness, cooperation, and caring for the environment around us.

Through shared experiences children develop:

• confidence and independence
• social and emotional skills
• creativity and imagination
• curiosity about the natural world
• respect for themselves, others, and their environment

Our goal is to nurture children who feel connected to themselves, to their community, and to the living world around them.
